The rising waters shut down the city's natural gas supply. The storm hit the Lake Shore Electric Railway hard on the West side of Lorain. Service was suspended on the Lorain-to-Sandusky route due to flooded tracks. The Green Line was also shut down. The shipyards were also closed down because of damage to the plant and because workers were unable to get to work.
