Immediately following college graduation (1928) Beth moved to New York City where she worked as a bacteriologist with the New York City Board of Health Research Laboratories. Beth was featured in the New York Times on March 10, 1930 for her courageous work as a laboratory assistant researching Parrot Fever. Beth was quoted in the Times article "I'll be twenty-two next week," (she confided shyly). "I'm in perfect health, I'm not worried. Of course, I'll keep on with the parrot fever study. Why not?". Beth continued her work as a research bacteriologist on vaccines for infectious diseases for 7 years.
