Conrad Reid was born in 1802 in Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania. He moved to Lorain with his parents, John Reid and Anna Schuyler in 1811. They were one of the first pioneer families to live in what is now Lorain. In fact, they eventually owned all the water front and lots of land in what is now downtown Lorain. Conrad Reid was the city's first Mayor. Reid Avenue is named for Conrad Reid. Part of the Reid property became Washington Park (now called Veteran's Memorial Park).
