Later, in August of 1942, the Battle for Guadalcanal started. This battle was primarily for possession of an airfield on Lunga Point. This airfield was named Henderson Field in honor of one of Lorain's hero's, Lofton Henderson, the first Marine Pilot to die in the Battle for Midway.
