Tom Johnson invented new streetcar fare-box that is still in use on buses and trains all over the world as well as his patented Johnson girder-based streetcar rail -- the "Jaybird". These "T" shaped streetcar rails were very strong, well engineered and offered a smoother ride than the "strap rails" used before his invention.
