Oakwood Park, in South Lorain, was created from land donated to the city of Lorain by the Sheffield Land Company, a part of the Johnson Steel Company in 1894. It consisted of almost 80 acres with many giant oak trees. Many improvements were made to the park over the years, including a band stand, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, picnic tables as well as a lagoon and island that was built by a troop of 42 boys who were members of the National Youth Administration. This is a picture of the lagoon and island. These items are no longer in the park.
