The horse-drawn steetcars lasted until July 14, 1894. In 1894, the Johnson Steel Rail Company, owned by Tom Johnson, began construction on the steel plant. At the same time, he built the Lorain-Elyria street railway, which ran on electricity. It was first known as the "Johnson Line" and later referred to as the "Yellow Line". The streetcar tracks ran from the "The Loop" to E. 28th Street, where the steel plant was located, to Grove Avenue and ended at the 31st Street bridge. This is a picture of a streetcar equipped with cleaning brushes to remove debris from the roadbed.
